It's a Fantastic Football Thursday!
Yesterday was not a great day for us overall, with our MLB sides destroying any chance for profit. 😠 The good news is we continue to have success with our college football plays, cashing another winner. 😃 It’s all football in today’s issue of the newsletter with both the NFL and CFB plays, including action on multiple games tonight. Time’s a wastin, so let’s get right to it and see exactly how we’re taking down the books today! 🤞
Here’s what’s on tap:
How we’re playing Thursday Night Football 🏈
Three more plays for your CFB card, including an under we love for tonight ❤️
Here we go!
NFL Week 5: Points will be hard to come by tonight in DC
Week 5 in the NFL starts with a stinker between the Bears and the Commanders. There’s not much here on the entertainment front, but there is an excellent opportunity to cash a winning ticket, and that’s what we’re all about.
Commanders vs. Bears u44.5 (-110): Our complete lack of trust in either of these offenses leads us to the under in this matchup. Outside of success for one half against the Broncos, the Bears' passing game has been brutal. After watching QB Sam Howell turn over the football at an alarming rate and do a horrible job of dealing with any level of pass rush, we expect the Commanders to resort to a run-heavy offense tonight. Chicago will likely follow suit, as Justin Fields and the passing game can’t be counted on. The run-heavy attacks from both offenses will shorten the game and take some pressure off a pair of lousy defenses, allowing this matchup to slide under the total.
CFB Week 6: The Flames will stifle the Bearkats tonight
Our college football week started with a backdoor cover we will gladly take on the New Mexico State-Florida International game. We’re adding three plays to our CFB card. Let’s keep the covers coming, hopefully with less sweating 😰 than last night.
Sam Houston St. vs. Liberty u46 (-110): Sam Houston State is one of the worst offenses in the nation. They can’t run or pass the ball successfully with any regularity, ranking 132nd of 133 teams in total offense. We know they were better last week versus Jacksonville State, but don’t expect that modicum of success to carry over to this matchup with Liberty. The Flames are ranked 18th in yards allowed per game and only surrender 18.5 points per contest. Liberty’s schedule hasn’t exactly been Murders Row, but they have not faced an offense worse than the Bearkats, so look for the Flames' defense to dominate this matchup, with Sam Houston lucky if they can reach double digits. If there’s one thing the Bearkats can do, it’s play defense. They limit opponents to 25 points per game and rank in the top 50 nationally in total defense. Does that mean they will shut down Liberty? Absolutely not. The Flames will have their share of success, putting up somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 points, but will not light up the scoreboard while we don’t see a path to more than 10 points for Sam Houston, making the under a good play tonight.
Tulsa +3.5 (-110) vs. Florida Atlantic: We expect this to be a close game and like Tulsa to possibly win this game outright. Both teams have faced defensive challenges, but the offensive advantage tilts toward the Golden Hurricane. They rank 76th in the country, averaging 27.8 points per game. Quarterback Cardell Williams, coming off a great win last week, has averaged 194 yards passing and two touchdowns in the air, and the Tulsa offense has rushed for an average of 193.4 yards per game. They should roll here on an FAU defense that has surrendered an average of 239.8 passing yards per game and 158.3 yards on the ground. This should be a one-score game much of the way, so getting better than a field goal with a team we believe has a real shot to win outright seems like a great spot to us.
Kent St. vs. Ohio u45.5 (-110): This play is simple. Kent State is the worst offense in the nation, scoring just 6.3 points per game, and Ohio allows just 11 points per game. The Golden Flashes won’t score more than seven points on Saturday! While the Bobcats' offense is finding its footing with the return of quarterback Kurtis Rourke, who missed time earlier in the season due to an injury, they have yet to score 40 points in a game, and we don’t expect it here. Ohio scoring 40 or better is the only way this game climbs over the total, and we’re betting that doesn’t happen.
